Uninstallation / Switching between layout options on collection pages in Shopify

How do I uninstall or disable Preserve Shopify Theme Layout?

Within the Shopify App there are three options to choose from for the Collection pages:

  1. Preserve Shopify Theme
  2. Use Klevu Theme
  3. Disabled (Disable Smart Category Merchandising itself)

If you have already selected Preserve Shopify Theme, you can switch over to the Klevu Theme option, or disable Klevu altogether on your Collection pages. Once you have selected #2 or #3, Klevu will no longer trigger updates to the ordering of products within your Collections.

Whichever of these options you select, the Klevu App will attempt to automate the process to undo the modifications made to your theme during the installation. Should this not work correctly, you can follow the manual installation steps in reverse to remove the modifications manually.

How do I uninstall or disable Klevu Theme?

Within the Shopify App there are three options to choose from for the Collection pages:

  1. Use Klevu Theme
  2. Preserve Shopify Theme
  3. Disabled (Disable Smart Category Merchandising itself)

If you have already have Klevu Theme enabled, the two options to disable are to switch over to the Preserve Shopify Theme option, or to disable Klevu altogether on your Collection pages. Once you have selected #2 or #3, Klevu will automatically revert the collection.liquid to its former version, as it was before we replaced it with our Klevu Theme snippet.

In case this process does not revert as expected, please note that Shopify also maintains its own history of changes to collection.liquid, see this Shopify support article for more information. You can use this Shopify feature to manually revert the changes to your Collection template.

JSv1 / JavaScript Customisations

Some Klevu customers already using Klevu Theme are asked to add a custom JavaScript file to their theme in order to provide some customer-specific overrides to certain functionality. We provide documentation for this here: Instructions to include the klevu-user-customization.js on a Shopify store.

If you have such a customisation script and are planning to switch to our Preserve Layout approach, you will need to take manual steps to comment out or remove this custom script inclusion. Similarly, if you were trying Preserve Layout and now wish to switch back to the Klevu Theme, you will need to take manual steps to re-add this customisation script.

Generally we ask customers to add this custom JavaScript script to theme.liquid. If you have any problems finding this or are not sure how to proceed, please check this guide or contact Klevu Support.

JSv2 / Klevu JS Library

The Klevu App currently supports switching between Klevu Theme (aka. JSv1) and Shopify Preserve Layout. If you are using Klevu JS Library (aka JSv2) or a custom frontend implementation of your own, when switching between these implementation methods you will have to take your own precautions to ensure you have removed any of the code that is no longer required from your theme.

We recommend liaising with your frontend developers on this topic, or whomever added the implementation of Klevu JS Library to your theme.
